Hori-koma (Carved pieces)

Price / from 2,000 yen: Pieces made of Shame-tsuge (foreign boxwood) costs over 5,000 yen.
Pieces made of Hon-tsuge (domestic boxwood) costs over 20,000 yen.

There is 2 types of Carved pieces, machine-made Carved pices and handmade Carved pices. And there are some types of Carved pieces by simple degree of font styles, Kurobori, Namibori, Chubori and Jyoubori. And Hori-koma with prestigious style of handwriting used from old days (Minase, Kinki, etc.), they call it Mei-koma.

Ichiji-bori

This is a kind of Hori-koma (Carved pieces), this is a type of shogi pices which only a letter is written down, for example, not Oushou but Ou.

Horiume-koma

Price / from 60,000 yen: They filled carved shogi piece with Japanese lacquer and polish it flat.

They put Japanese lacquer on a Horiume-koma with a Makiefude. Letters of this shogi pieces float to the surface. It is very difficult to make it and it needs very long time. They often use this type of shogi pieces at the professtional title match of shogi game.

Makiefude : A special paint brush for Japanese lacquer industrial arts made with hair such as a cat or a mouse.

Shogi board

A folding type (Price / from 1,000 yen): A borad with a hinge in order to fold. It is easy to bring anywhere.
A type of 1 sun board (Price / from 5,000 yen): A type of using just one piece of board. sun is a Japanese tradittional unit of length and 1 sun is about 3 Centimeters (1.19inches) long. That length means thickness of board, there are Several kinds boards, 3 sun board, 5 sun board, etc.
